Eurocamp or SIBLU Holidays?

Hi

I have tried searching on the Chat Forum but I'm wading through loads of information that it getting me confused! I have never been on such a holiday abroad (have been to UK parks) and as a family of 5 I thought this might be a good way to get a way to somewhere warm, but still have stuff that the children would enjoy. Looking to go in Summer Hols.

Can anyone recommend a Eurocamp or SIBLU resort (sorry - there are soooo many!). We fancy france, very near to beach (ie, within walking distance), and swimming pool with stuff for the kids (not necessarily kids club), and what accommodation is best?

Thanks guys. xx

  • It really depends which part of France you're willing to travel to. Would you be more interested in Brittany? Or Vendée on the west coast? Or maybe the Côte D'Azur? There's really good sites in all these places.

Hi Cuffie, have only ever been on EUROCAMP holidays, and can recommend most of them, as being great. The best thing is to look on their website, eurocamp.co.uk or. com not sure which and look at various sites, they will list all the things that you might want and have kids clubs etc for kids of various ages, usually 4 -7, 8 -11, 12 -14 all with activities to suite the age group. Kids can go on their own, parents then get some peace and quiet. Lots of the sites are right on the beach or very near. And depending on how old your kids are you can't go wrong with a Eurocamp tent, they have proper beds and mattresses, full size fridge etc. And the prices are for 14 nights which includes Dover Calais crossing and is for the car and not per person, so the price you see is pretty much what you will pay. Or you can do our Moneysaving trick and take your own tent and book thru Eurocamp Independent, still get all the Eurocamp facilities, and ferry crossing but costs only fraction of their costs. We're off to South of France in August 2 adults 2 kids and its £450 for everything.

    Enjoy your holiday

Are they all on the beach? Brittany sounds nice - not too far...but not really too fussed - just want to get away somewhere warm thats nice for the kids, but relaxing for us too. I'd rather stay in a caravan/mobile home. Really don't fancy a tent!!

I went on the Eurocamp website but I'd rather be recommended somewhere that someone had been. There are so many, and I haven't got a clue what they are like.

    Thanks x
  • It depends what you like - noisy and busy or quiet. If you want lots of kids clubs and things to do, then I would recommend Le grande Metairie in Carnac, Brittany. Lots of English operators there - I think the cheapest could be French Life, but when we went(4 Years ago), the mobile homes were in the walkway to the toilet block ! To be honest, get the brochure and it should say how busy the site is. Have you thought about Duinrell in Holland - not so warm, but fantastic for the children, a theme park, water park and campsite combined -
https://www.duinrell.nl , eurocamp, canvas holidays and keycamp all have tents etc there.
  • I can personally recommend these sites:

Pointe St Gilles in Benodet, Brittany (5 mins walk from main sandy beach - pebble beach opposite campsite entrance)
Le Clarys Plage, St Jean de Monts, Vendée (2 mins drive to beach)
Séquoia Parc in Marennes, Gironde (nearest beach is about 10 mins drive away)
Le Vieux Port in Messanges, Aquitaine (direct access to the beach - massive site)

These are listed in order, going from North to South. My personal favourite would be Le Vieux Port. It's a huge campsite (1000+ pitches), and the beach is fantastic. As an added bonus, there's a direct path to the beach, too! If you want to save A LOT of money, you could book direct with the campsite and stay in one of their caravans. This is what we did. Have a look at their website: http://www.levieuxport.com/

We have had some truly great holidays at a bargain price in France, both in the mobile homes and tents.

We always used to book through a company called SunSites, who were a sister company to Eurocamp. They did not offer the full range of sites (the best ones were all there) but were about 30% cheaper. I have just googled for them and they seem to have disappeared but this showed up. It has the same look and feel as the old Sunsites brochure, so maybe it's the same company. Probably worth a look anyway.

I don't know which ferry port you would be arriving at. We always came in via Cherbourg as the ferry is just down the road for us. We used to stop for a couple of nights at Chateau des Ormes: Dol De Bretagne to settle into the swing of things, then onto the Vendee region which has many fantastic beaches and is not too far to drive. There are loads of sites around there. We prefered the ones away from the beach as it was less noisy and you got the best of both worlds, but that is up to you.

One year we took 17 days (the longest I have ever had for a holiday) and had a long weekend at Dol, 6 days in Vendee, 5 days in the Loire valley, and a weekend in Normandy. Absolutely fantastic - and all for about £250 for 7 of us  .

BTW I think I noticed Eurocamp on Quidco earlier.

You were right...Sunsites was related to Eurocamp. It was bought by Holidaybreak plc (who own Eurocamp and Keycamp), but is no longer in existence - they just run the two companies now.

We holidayed for 15 consecutive years at Le Brazilia ( https://www.brasilia.fr ) on the Med, thro Venue Holidays. Check out their website at https://www.venueholidays.co.uk They usually have some great offers on webwise. We always got great personal attention, try ringing them for advice.
Some years we used the tents 4 bedrooms with sprung beds. Full size cooker. Other years we used the caravans.
We always found them cheaper & you can start your holiday any day of the week with a minimum stay of 3 nights. Direct access onto the beach. Great facilities for adults and children.

If you're not fussed about the kids' club and English-speaking support onsite, try booking direct with the campsite, once you've identified the place you want to go. You can usually pay by credit card, and most campsites have their own chalets or mobile homes for rent at rates way below Siblu. If you've got a smattering of French you can work out what the appalling English translations mean on the websites! Pointe St Gilles in southern Brittany is a favourite of ours too - esp. the takeaway food. First time we went there, first night under canvas, we had fresh crayfish with garlic mayonnaise, salade nicoise and tarte au citron all from the takeaway. Magic.
Before you criticise a man, walk a mile in his shoes. Then, when you do criticise him, you're a mile away and you have his shoes.

I can also vouch that the tarte au citron is delicious! That was usually a treat for me every few days!
