Can I get a black cartridge that will last longer for my 1100.The standard one only seems to last 5 mins and costs an arm and leg

I don't know your model of printer, but I also use a Lexmark. Ink for this company is extortionate. When I've bought ink for my model (X73), I've noticed that compatible black ink cartridges for my model can have a very big price difference. The difference is normally from around £16 to around £23 for black ink. I've asked before why there is such a difference in price for black ink for the same model printer. I have been told that the different cartridges contain different amounts of ink. I always buy the most expensive now, and the cartridges last ages for me.

I've got to say though. I would never buy another Lexmark because of the ink prices.

Maybe invest in a laser printer?? PC World usually have the samsung one or some other laser printers usually about £50 on sale (special offers). Sure they cost more but they can also print off more copies than normal inkjets. The replacement laser toners are sometimes just as expensive as the machine(s) itself and more, costing for example about £45+ (quick random search) for a genuine laser toner??? Even if you only print once in a while the laser printer ink won't dry up, whereas on an normal inkjet it would dry up unless you keep the ink nozzles moit or print a few lines of text every month or something to make sure the ink doesn't dry up.

Further to this you can refill laser carts quite a few times much more cheaply. I use http://www.refilltoner.com/index.htm for my brother and costs about £11.00 for 2500 pages (note this would last me 1 to 2 years.)
