Why does linux have to be so bloody akward?

You've managed to make your Linux desktop look like a Mac, and it's rather pretty.
I used to use Fedora, but it appears to have moved on a bit since then. It certainly didn't look like that.
Yeah, Its a sort of half assed attempt, but its running very sluggishly so I am assuming its to fancy looking. Though in saying that prior to installing Fedora I tried OS X 10.4.8 on this same computer and I have to say it was the fastest operating system I've ever ran, Start up was less than 20 sec and opening programs was instant, so dont know what the issue is with Fedora. If I could speed it up alot I think I would be very happy with it.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
OS X 10.5 is even faster than OS X 10.4, and OS X 10.6 is going to be crazy fast.
Did it run any faster with the default theme? That might help you narrow down what the problem is.0 -

A bit faster, I do get occasional random lines etc going across the screen so unless it don't like my graphics card. I might have a look around for osx 10.5. I would of kept 10.4 on this PC but it doesn't like my broadcom ethernet card so can;t get online with it.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. If you're getting lines across the screen, it sounds as though it could be a graphics card issue. You could always have a look and see if there are any updated drivers for it.0

it is almost certainly a driver issue, even the most bloated distros would stomp on vista with that hardware.
also give suse a try, its a bit portly for me but a good newbie distro as it shows what linux can do.0 -

What Video card you using?
The only way to get Linux running "sluggish" on that hardware is to be running Comiz (or some other Desktop animations / Effects program). Try turning it off and see if it gets any better..
I was running Ubuntu on a old Laptop with a p4m 2Ghz 512Mb ram and a 16Mb Graphics card, The video card could not run the effects but the system flew!!!
