Next paint supplier - Farrow & Ball?

Hi

I'd like to use 2 paints from the Next range (mushroom and hazel) and I have a feeling they are supplied by Farrow & Ball.

Obviously Farrow & Ball don't have products in their own range with these names (that would make life far too easy!) and I'm keen to find out if they do produce and sell these colours independently and whether they would be cheaper

Next charge £14 plus delivery for 2.5 litres - any one know whether this is cheaper than Farrow & Ball own brand?

Thanks in advance

I think it is cheaper. IIRC Farrow & Ball is very expensive...

On their website F&B is £30.50 for 2.5 litres of 'modren emulsion'.
Not sure if they add delivery to that!
  • If you have a colour sample can't dulux match it?
Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam
  • get it matched! F&B paint is gorgeous but hell to work with, poor coverage and the modern emulsion stinks too. Did my last house downstairs in Farrows Cream and never, ever again.

Consider Laura Ashley paint (from homebase or mail order) they do similar colours and their paint is virtually odourless and covers brilliantly. Customer service leaves something to be desired, though!

    Good luck!

take the colour card to your local building supplies and see if they have either dulux or crown colour scan system and get them to scan the card or if they do a match pot paint a bit of wood and take that in
the dulux system will give a match to the nearest colour in their range which i believe is over 12- 15000 colours where as the crown system will create an exact recipe for the colour
whilst f+ b paints are great colours , the actual paint is over priced and not as good as dulux or crown

I don't know if it's still the case but you used to be able to ring Dulux customer services, they kept the paint charts of lots of suppliers to hand and could tell you what colour was the closest match. They'd also tell you where to find your nearest dulux system so you could have it made up.

You won't get a colour match to Farrow & Ball. They only use naturally occuring pigment whereas the likes of Dulux use synthesised colour. It always looks cleaner and it does look cheaper.

If you can't tell the difference, fair enough, but I can and having tried the colour mix once, I'd not ever do it if it was a Farrow & Ball colour I wanted.

There's not a chance that Next paint is made by Farrow & Ball. They would demand a really low price from their suppliers and to sell something at £14 that F&B sell at £30 isn't possible. F&B wouldn't make anything on the deal and you can imagine anyway with a relatively unique product they won't be making 'own brand' paint.

Next sell things at quite high prices - the wallpaper is cheaper in B&Q etc.

  • Did a job where the customer wanted a F&B colour, Pidgeon.

Couldn't source it for locally, so suggested to customer we got it colour matched at the local Decorator centre I use. We were both a bit sceptical as to how close the Crown system could match. So I had a small sample pot made up, I then splodged a bit on the F&B colour card & let it dry. Was amazed to find after drying it could not be 'seen'. Client was very happy with the end result.

If you don't know what it's like to live with then the match will be perfect. Only you will know if it's acceptable. I will say that the majority will find it acceptable.

I understand the colours. If you want people to recognise F&B then it has to be F&B. I cheat and mix the more intense colours with magnolia elsewhere but the clarity of the F&B brings the rest up. The oil based exterior eggshell I haven't found anywhere else - for a flat matt exterior door they're the only choice.
