London visit

We are travelling down from Nottingham to Central London for a wedding reception on a Saturday evening in April. There are 6 adults and 2 children and I think we want to make a weekend of it. Any suggestions as to travel down(we do have the option of cars), accomodation and things to do when down there?
Thanks

It might work out cheaper if you bought a family rail card costing £20 which will entitle you to large savings on a rail ticket for the whole family, so it works out cheaper in the long run.

If you are looking for things to do try the london eye, science museum which are great for adults and kids alike. Mary Poppins is great again for all ages. Also the Original London walk co (find them online) do great guided walks all over London

    the Marriott

Hope that link works, have a look at some of the marriott hotels you can normally get 4 people in a room and it usually comes with breakfast for 2 adults and 2 children.

It may seem a bit expensive but they are lovelly hotels. I have only stayed in the West india quays one in London and it was lovelly.

THey are always worth a look they do cheap rates at weekends.

https://www.londontown.com for hotels in VERY central London.

never known to be beaten on price.

Touch lucky and you can get 5* hotel double rooms for under £120.

Why not try Travelodges? They do family rooms that sleep 2 adults and 2 kids on pullout beds. Can't beat the £26 a night for a clean, functional and BIG room. They also do straight double rooms and you could be lucky to get them for £10 a night... see LOADS of posts on this forum on that subject! We stayed at the one in Battersea (well, nearer Clapham...) for half term and it was excellent value. There are several in central London too. https://www.travelodge.co.uk

And I'd definitely recommend the family railcard/cheap railfare route. We did Manchester-London for 2 adults & 2 kids for £50! That's cheaper than 5 days' parking and congestion charge, let alone the petrol on top!

Try and do the london Eye https://www.ba-londoneye.com (Airmiles used to do good deals) and the London DuckTours https://www.londonducktours.co.uk (you can get 2 for 1 tickets with rail tickets https://www.2for1entry.co.uk). Or if you can't stretch or fit in a ducktour, try and do a boat trip up the Thames, possibly to The Tower of London or Greenwich.

If you get hold of an oyster travel card (£3 deposit + prepayment of fares), you can get discounts for some family attractions (see https://www.tfl.gov.uk)

For good restaurant deals you could try https://www.toptable.co.uk

Covent Garden, Leicester Square, Chinatown (Won Kei's on the corner of Shaftsbury Avenue and Wardour St is a good Chinese Restaurant - Waiters can be rude, they only take Cash, you are likely to be sat on tables with other people - sounds horrible, but is a great institution, cheap set menus and good food), Piccadily Circus and Trafalgar Square are all good to walk round and between.

I find the best way to travel around London is by Bus or on foot, you see so much more than by Tube.

If you collect Tesco clubcard tokens, you could convert these to Hotel Deals Tokens (worth 4 times value of Clubcard Points Tokens), then use these against a london hotel. Last weekend stayed at 5* Marriott Park Lane, paid partly with Clubcard Tokens and were luck enough to get upgrade to top suite over looking Marble arch.
  • Try The Claverly in Knightsbridge, like a nice B&B but virtually next door to Harrods. Do the London Eye and open top bus tour, this is what I did recently with my family. Best way to see most stuff!!!
