Ex-Council Anyone?
Comments
-
My house is ex-council. It's not on an estate though, just a few streets of houses of which about 50-50 private/council-owned.
It's a great house though, huge rooms, lots of garden around the side, front and back. It's very 'sturdy' too, no creaks or cracks, unlike my friends 70s terrace which I always feel like is going to fall apart at any second.
The thing with council homes is they were very well-built because they were built to last and built to house large familes, but the council always scrimped on fixtures and fittings, eg. interior doors are thin with cheap handles, gas fire is basic (and ugly).
My friends who've bought tiny new-build matchbox houses though with postage stamp sized gardens, always comment on the spaciousness of my house though, so i think i can live with cheap door handles...for now!0
