I think it was The Express that made up most of that huge list of headlines that Cat695 posted a couple of weeks back, for example
1. House pirces recovering.
2. House prices dip.
3. House prices are flattening.
4. House prices crumble.
Repeat...... as necessary for 6 years from peak. These headlines are laughable and just shows what short memories newspaper editors have. In fact Cat 695, what you sould do is print out a copy of those headlines and fax them to all the major newspapers, then add at the bottom of the list a nice smiley face.
Did you see yesterday's mate? House prices recover or some such shyt:rotfl::rotfl:
Today it's the economy that's recovered:T
Gawd bless the Express, gotta keep the plebs from rioting in the streets:eek:0 -
i think the basic conclusion that i draw is that. 1. the press seem to want house prices to return to 2007 levels. which is scary. 2. potential FTB's like myself want them to drop further. and 3. no-one, including myself, the press and any experts have a clue where its going. and even if they did they'd still twist the information to meet their own interests0

I am still amazed every single day by the people I talk to, half of whom seem to think that prices will be back where they were at the peak within a short time.WhiteThierry wrote: »i think the basic conclusion that i draw is that. 1. the press seem to want house prices to return to 2007 levels. which is scary.
Also a builder I know complaining that it's not worth him building houses because there is no profit in it. Well they were still building houses in 2002 and making profits, so what's going on? I tell you what's going on, they've had it too good, for far too long and forgotten what normal life is like.Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0 -
diff being in 2002 transaction levels were higher. dont really think its so much about the price but the backlog of oversupply for newly built housing. so its not about how much each one will sell for but when will it sell..
prob more than enough housing to go round now imoPrefer girls to money0 -
No, what he was saying (and this is straight from the horses mouth) is that in building it's in thirds, a third to build the house, a third to buy the plot and a third profit. He says the third profit is now gone, so what's the point building.
I don't quite get that, but that's what he said.Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0 -
Well I thought a third was one hell of a profit. I should have been in building for the last 10 years

I would also say, the cost of the plot and building would also have reduced so profit can still be made, but as is the case in most things to do with the housing market, from EA's to unrealitistic vendors, everyone wants something for nothing.:rolleyes:0 -

lotus-eater; with the crazy crazy boom surprise surprise cost of land went up [really??!!] thus the bulder means- he pays still silly money for the land, materials also went up to capitalise on the construction boom [particulary in china + dubai] and then his return is hugely diminished on a product he is unlikely to sell AND will probably shrink by c20% this year. would you do it ?!
ps-yes you SHOULD have been in building last ten years ! ;]remember always -'' life shrinks or expands in proportion to ones courage''0
