Try
http://www.gumtree.com go to the car sales section and select price range and/or add your own 'wanted' add.
http://uk.freeads.net/ under 'motor's' go to 'cars'
http://www.british-car-auctions.co.uk/ not used this myself, not sure how it works ... but don't trust myself with auctions
http://www.fish4cars.co.uk/
http://www.autotrader.co.uk/
http://www.loot.com/
For advice, check out:
http://www.wisebuyers.co.uk/ for car value
http://www.honestjohn.co.uk This site has it all really!
Thanks to those who listed the above two sites on MSE :T
Edit: http://www.ukcar.com/features/reg_year.htm proved to be very helpful to me, just for reference. 1996 being a N or P, I think you should be able to get a pretty good runner for your price range. But make sure you ask all the questions before you view the car. I would ask if the car has alarm, e/w, c/l etc, but didn't think to ask if they actually worked ... and the sellers never thought to mention that they didn't work  so, a lot of wasted time and money!I can say whatever I like here ... 'cos no one can see me .. ner ner ner ner ner !!!....How do you know I ain't sitting here butt naked?!?!I thunk I've made you think for a minute!:j :rotfl: :j0
