i didnt thnk to remember his name from his badge but he really brightened up my day. young lad, about 19 yo works in the Morden branch of Sainsbury's.
ok so he told me two most groansome jokes but he was very dead pan and just such a nice person. his personality shone through.
ive seen him there before one time and he not only does 8-12 hour shifts daytime but also works to the early hours there stacking the shelves.
so bravo to him. a thoroughly decent young man and a credit to all lovely checkout/kiosk operators.
when i go in next i will find out who he is and tell the managers what a thoroughly decent chap he is.

I think more of us should take a few minutes of our time to tell managers of any excellent or helpful staff members we come across.
Retailing at the sharp end can be very stressful, so a smile at the checkout operator, and praise to the supervisor when warranted would encourage more people in the service industry to be more helpful, and to enjoy their job.0 -
Its nice to hear some praise, this board seems to be much more vent than anything else!!DRO granted 17/10/20090

Agree with you there oldone, I often (when its been deserved) make a mental note of the assistant, and give them a mention to a supervisor, briefly explaining what happened.
I think it is sad that many customers only tend to complain, and dont take the time to praise too.
Although I do remember once, telling a supervisor about the friendly service from the new young butcher.....I got all my words muddled, and said something about him being nice and friendly when he gave me his sausage...I could hear the words come out and couldnt believe what Id said!!!:o0 -
Nice to hear someone is doing a great job..I have a rule in life, if it's bad complain and if I get good service tell them they made me happy and tell their manager too!0

the bad jokes if anyone was wondering:
'we were told we werent allowed to sell matches anymore so we went on strike'
this was said after my 3 year old piped up 'mummy you need to buy matches. so he was listening to her as well which was nice]
and as i was leaving he said
'just to warn you of a rip off..............velcro'
lol. bless him. There's someone in my head, but it's not me0 -
He sounds great wish there was more like him0

might be worth writing to the store too (or finding out if they have some sort of form at the service desk)
I know at Asda (well ours anyway) if a customer writes to the store about good service the colleague involved gets invited to a 'celebration lunch', held every month, usually it's just a free lunch, but sometimes they give away other stuff too (extra day off, leave or start couple of hours early etc.)0
