Web site

I should like to have a go at building my own web site. I prefer to use a company that has the frames etc all done, and I simple add text/photos etc.

Can any one recommend such a site.

  • Try Yahoo Geocities...it looks simple enough...but remember most of these sites will make ads appear on your site etc. Building a website with something like FrontPage can be as easy and far less restrictive than using a web-based editor...

If you purchase a hosting package with 1and1.co.uk you can use their website creating tool so you just enter the text and images that you want and it creates the page for you.

You can also use WYSIWYG tool like Frontpage which is very easy to use providing you know what you want from your website. :)

It all depends on what your needs are. If you just want a basic website try geocities.com although you get ads that appears on your site. If you just need a basic account with no ads then try https://www.freewebs.com. 1 and 1 are very good, i used 6 month free trial with free domain name etc last year and found their service to be very good. Although I didn't use any of their WYSIWYG tools as I am an experienced web designer. With 1 and 1 you can also use dynamic things such as PHP and a database although I dont know which type it is.
To be honest it all depends on your needs but if you're just after a free, basic, ad free web host then https://www.freewebs.com is your best option.

The new Googlepages is very good for newbies. But you have to sit and wait patiently to be let in - or sometimes they open the doors for a day before closing again to new members

They use a standard set of templates. Have a look at some others

You can have a site on my system if you like - it's got a built in content management system and the sites are free if you don't mind having Google ads on them. You can create as many pages as you want, edit text and upload all your photos.

There's an example you can play with on www.community-council.org.uk/glenboggin.
