put your old postcode in and check what exchange your on, then put your new postcode in and see if its the same exchange0 -
Virgin and BT have completely separate networks and exchanges, so whether you are in the same BT exchange area as your new house is irrelevant. In big cities, more than one exchange can serve the same geographical area.
Only way to find out whether you can keep ('port') your number is to phone BT I think.0 -
If the new address tele number is the same STD code as your existing address/number then you should be able to 'import' the number from Virgin to BT. If the new address has existing BT service then you may need to check the the current occupant has advised BT to stop/cease the line otherwise you wont easily be able to takeover the line, also you probably need to speak to the BT Homemovers team to organise the export/import the number from Virgin to BT and start renumber
the existing line at the new property to the number you already have0
