help, computer won't start

hello my daughters computer won't start up properly, it says 'windows failed to start' then it goes to a black screen with a green progress bar on it and it just sticks at this point. i have tried unplugging everything and starting again, tried safe mode but every option just takes me to the screen with the progress bar on it. i can't get any further. please help.

Do you have a Vista disc, if so try booting with that, select you language etc then select repair.
