Deal or no deal

I just received a 'parts cover' letter from Hotpoint telling me that my washing machine is now 5yrs old... I never took out the insurance for it as I usually think its a con .....
I just want an opinion on this deal they are offering...
A years breakdown cover and if they cannot fix it they will replace with a new one .. for £6.40 per month seems cheap on the face of it... one thing worries me in the part where it says whats NOT covered it says "your failure to follow manufacturers instructions", I guess that could mean practically anything.....
Anyway I digress is this a reasonable deal or should I go with my instincts and chuck it in the bin...... or the shredder.... :rotfl:

That's £76.80 a year, guess labour for a call out could be the best part of £100
How much would a new machine cost you?
New machines come with a 5 year free parts cover.
Think I'd save the money towards a new machine for when the time comes when you need to replace it.0 -
I'd shred it...
I feel these things are often not worth it. My MIL had been paying for one of those for 9 years (unknown to us) & was still not covered when needed. She was a bit vague as to why (as ever!) but it went something along the lines of her machine was no longer made, so the wanted a contribution of about £200 towards the new machine that was going to cost them £600 or something...
I told her that was ridiculous (among other things) & she passed on the message, apparently they then offered to sell her another policy for her new machine (that they were not supplying!)
Depends on your circumstances though, it might be worth it for the peace of mind? You can buy a basic machine for £170 & get a whirlpool 1400spin for £200 inc delivery from Comet, so prob cheaper elsewhere. The only exception I would make is if you have a washer-dryer. I took out a policy on mine, then had about 14 call outs in the 4 years before I gave it away in disgust.0
