How early is too early for buying a dress?

How early is ok to buy a wedding dress? I wouldn't want to leave it too late as I will be buying off ebay rather than having it made to fit so I may have to find a dress maker to alter it.

I have seen something I like and am worried that by the time he proposes (we have set a wedding date but no proposal!) the one I want won't be available but I am equally worried I will spot something else that I like more if I buy it too soon or that I will spontaneously put on loads of weight if I buy it so it wont fit!

At the moment 'my' dress is on ebay for £18.99 including delivery and I'm sorely tempted!

When is your date? At that price it may be worth buying it and if you see something else that you prefer then you can either re-sell it on E-Bay or take a loss of £19 which isn't alot to loose on a wedding dress, but to be honest you'd probably get it sold. Like you say you might not be able to get it if you don't buy it now.

That's what I thought! We are planning to get married in Aug 2010 which seems to be edging closer but without an actual proposal it still seems premature!

It is like this one http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/LOVELY-SATIN-DARK-PURPLE-EVENING-DRESS-SIZE-8-10_W0QQitemZ190184634974QQcmdZViewItemQQptZWomen_s_Clothing?hash=item190184634974&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1685%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318

also how would I hide it!!!!
  • Its never too early to buy,go for it.I am sure there are some girls planning their wedding, got the dress hanging up in the wardrobe already, who dont even have a boyfriend yet never mind a formal proposal:D.So,never too early.

For £19 I would buy it

You either lose a small amount of money or you can resell it. One of my friends is getting married in September - she bought her dress a year and a half ago!

Btw - how come you have a wedding date but no proposal yet? Surely you can't have one without the other?? :rotfl:

Louise - you'd think so wouldn't you! But not in my OH's world!

He has picked when he wants to do it (our 10th anniversary), what he wants to wear, what he would like on the buffet, what table centres he would like and has a vague idea of what he'd like me to wear but hasn't proposed...

The date has been picked for nearly 2 years...!

I don't mind doing things the non-traditional way but sometimes things are traditional for a reason!!

    *sigh*

I've already bought my dress (got it about a month ago) and we're not planning to get wed until October 2010! :)
