I have a basic Sky set-up with a Netgear wireless router and basic adaptor.
The adaptor works fine downstairs, but when moved upstairs to our second bedroom - which is its intended location - the signal is either very low or becomes falls away altogether.
My question is:
Can my problem be solved purely by upgrading the adaptor - if it can could you suggest one - or do I need to look at upgrading the whole system ie new router etc?
Has anyone any cost effective suggestions that won't break the bank?
Any help you might be able to give would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Gaming Guy but that doesn't really answer the query - I've already tried moving the aeriel around and am happy that other wireless devices are not affecting reception.
What I want to know is what I need to buy or do to ensure a good reception.
Can I improve it with an enhanced adaptor or am I going to need to look at a whole new system?
Either way what products would ohter 'Money Savers' suggest?0 -
Start the cheap way by putting an extender on the USB adaptor (if that is what it is) to lift it above and away from the PC/laptop. get one about a foot long and then you can clip/Blu-Tak the adaptor to a shelf or wall etc.
I often find that moving it ust a few ins away from the metal case of a PC can make quite a difference to signal strength.
You can also buy higher gain aerials for the router, if it has the screw-on type.
But maybe the first thing to try is using a different channel on the router. If a neighbouring setup is using the same channel then this can interfere with yours. With the number of wireless networks in most streets these days, the odds are that someone nearby is on the same channel, because most people tend to leave theirs on the default. No free lunch, and no free laptop

You could try going on YouTube and searching for Pringle Wi-Fi (honest!).
Here's one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=betR3vejzg40 -
Thanks to macman - with some ideas I will put into practice, and Mr Rossi whose suggestions, via YouTube are, to say the least, a little unconventional.
I particularly like the guy who suggests wrapping the cable around a mobile phone!
Any further ideas would be greatly appreciated.
I'm off to demolish half a dozen tubes of Pringles! - any deals on at the moment Money Savers ?0 -
I recommend a wireless range extender.0
