Hi folks,
Can anybody tell me where or when I can get a P87 form for the year just ended? I need to claim tax relief on my milage but the HMRC website is still showing the 2007-2008 form.
Also does anybody know how long they take to make a repayment?
Any advice would be great!
Thanks

You dont need to use the form - you can set the claim out on a piece of paper. However, you will need to send your P60 with your claim, and you may not yet have this. I understand most tax offices have 8-10 weeks post on hand.£705,000 raised by client groups in the past 18 mths :beer:0

really? Everywhere else says I need to complete a P87 (which is what I did last year). Also Ive changed my job since, so i will be claiming for my previous job. I didnt send a P60 last time, do you have any idea when that turns up?

You can use the one on the website and just score out 2008 and write 2009. As yet we aren't aware of any changes to the form this year.
Your employer should give you your P60 by May 19th which is date they have to have their annual returns in by.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

Thanks, does this apply to previous employers too? I left the job in November.0 -
No you should have a P45 from that employer but HMRC can only assess the whole tax year so if you have worked since November or claimed taxable benefits then you need to make sure HMRC have full details of the pay and tax from all of these.
A quick phone call to HMRC is all that you need to make to ensure that they have enough information and if they do just go ahead and send in the P87 on it's own. I suggest the phone call to try to avoid delays caused by them having to write out to you requesting further information. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. The details from the employment you left in November should be included on the P60 from your present employer. Of course, you wont have a P45 from your old employer becuase you would have given it to your present employer!£705,000 raised by client groups in the past 18 mths :beer:0

That's partly true however the OP should still have part 1A of the P45 as they are only required to pass on parts 2 and 3 to their new employer. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Hi again,
If I do have to fill in a P87, does anyone know if I have to declare any extra passengers travelling with me? I did have extra passengers on occasions but not all of the time.
Many thanks!

I have a car that is my own but my company pay me an allowance to run it. I can claim 11p a mile (was 13p) for any business miles I do. Can I also fill out a P87 along with my P60 to get the remainder up to 40p a mile. I have done almost exactly 10,000 business miles. Only got the car allowance about 9 months ago.0

Yes.
On your P87 you claim tax relief on the 29p difference per mile.0
