Get your landlord to buy some padlocks for the gates?
Ask your landlord to install some gates with padlocks?
Ask your landlord for more secure fencing round the perimeter of the property?

We wondered about birds but to be honest it's not a small amount and it's always in the same place. We've checked with the next door neighbours and they don't have a rooflight and there are no windows overlooking the affected area. So we're ruling out birds.
Also the fall pattern changes when we secure the gates - if it's thrown over the fence it lands in a different place...Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants - Michael Pollan

I can't believe nobody has suggested the obvious yet - have you tried putting up a polite sign asking them to stop?0

jokes...hmmm....well the best I can think of off the top of my head would be to lay in wait for the "culprit" and say "I'm not THAT broke that I cant afford to buy food yet - and I eat organic anyway, thanks all the same":D
Well...it MIGHT work. I did try a comment the other day to a regular rubbish dropper in my area when I saw him sitting there again of "I wonder if you'd mind keeping an eye out for whoever-it-is that keeps dropping rubbish here please" - said with a smile. He duly promised he would/left his empty booze containers for that day's "rations" after he left - but I dont think he's been back since (probably found some place else to sleep - being as how he made a comment about being homeless and got the reply back that "I dont mind you being here - as long as the area stays neat and tidy").
So - maybe summat similar would work.
Mind you - if anyone has any good suggestions for how to deal with the World's Nosiest Neighbour (he was even peering into my dustbins behind my back the other day - so a very rude notice has duly been put inside them in case he does so again...:D) then it would be appreciated. It took me a while to "click" that a plant that got stolen from my garden recently (pot and all) was probably down to him - at which point I made sure I leave the back gate permanently secured.
I can sympathise - as it does make one feel uneasy at knowing some strange person is mucking around on your "territory".0 -

I agree ceridwen lay in wait.... the has to be your best option. I would not feel very happy that this is going on in my garden... small children will pick up this bread and eat it.... The bread will attract wildlife and RATS ~ the weather is getting nicer now and your toddler and you will want to be out more and more. Have you got any relatives/friends that can maybe sit in a car quietly watching the garden for the activity... then ask the person to stop or you will have no choice but phone the council. What goes around comes around !! Simple but very true :rotfl:0
