does anyone know if boots stores will be open on bank holiday monday?

I think most shops are open as normal, some may be sunday trading hours though.

If anyone is looking for reduced men's toilitries, don't bother with the Luton branch:rolleyes: All of the products I saw with reduced sels in London yesterday - are full price in luton:eek:I found some sanctuary accessories reduced, so got a couple of these and another boujoius nail polish for £1 odd. I think I prefer the pooey to the new skincare voucher. Nothing of interest to report. No reduced No7 in Luton either:rolleyes:

couttsey, sorry to hear your DD is unwell:( I hope she gets well soon ((hugs))

Hi, when my children have got bad coughs I use Buttercup, as it is for all ages and all types of coughs and it is really good. Have you also tried Medised rather than calpol as it eases breathing and helps a restful sleep, mine have this and they say it makes them feel better than calpol. hth.

I hadn't thought of buttercup actually- will have to have a little check of the ages, but I don't think I can give her Medised, as I tried to buy it for DS last year (I used to use this more than any other medicine) but they wouldn't sell it to me because a couple of weeks prior, they had changed the age to being 2 years minimum and he wasn't 2 at that point. Unfortunately as DD is only 9 months, I think it would definately be out of the window....... but at the same time, I never found that it did DS any harm when he did use it, so I am trying to weigh up the risk/reward factor iyswim? I don't want to sound like a careless mother, but I'm sure you understand the predicament of wanting to do something to help- but the Pharmacist/Doc is telling you that you can't.

Thank you for your message, it's very much appreciated :)

*Just to keep on topic- this refusal actually took place in Boots- I felt like I was being ID'd for cigarettes or alcohol* :o lol

ETA- Just to clarify, when DS used Medised, it was available for 6months+ (I didn't give him medication that wasn't suitable for his age)

i was going to suggest a honey remedy but since she's not yet 12 months honey is a no-no too
poor little thing, hope she feels better soon
in my experience, nothing helps quite so much as cuddles anyway

Ahhhh, ok- thank you for checking. I agree, cuddles seem to be the best medicine! She is not generally an over cuddly baby, but when she is poorly she loves her cuddles and doesn't like it when you leave her for two mins! lol

I had to laugh at the doc yesterday when he suggested I try to steam her
using the hot water in a basin and a towel over your head........ I might be completely missing the point here, but..... well .... how do you do that to a baby without dunking them in head first?:eek:

Think I'll give that one a miss!

On a seperate topic- does the HC discount work online for anyone today? Just asking as I was trying to place an order just now, but the discount has disappeared. I knew I should have done it yesterday when everything was still showing at discount prices in my basket, but wanted to leave it until today so that all the bills would clear :(

Hi, Sorry for your poor DD with her awful cough. you feel so helpless, don't you? It's so hard when they're babies as you can't give them hardly anthing!! Sorry, no useful advice, but just empathising.

Sorry, O/T- but wanted to draw parents' attention to something along the lines of the whole Bonjela situation........

Hi everyone! Not been on lately as DD has been very poorly....... long story short, took her to the Doc after waiting nearly a week for an appointment. Cough has spread to her chest and she has a nasty infection now. He said he didn't want to give her antibiotics, but leave it a week to see if it clears up itself  (going to secretly visit a more understanding Doc tomorrow) I asked what I could do to help her other than the usual Calpol and cuddles, as I don't feel Calpol serves a purpose for chest infections........ he tells me that it is now no longer possible to give children under the age of 6 years old Tixylix or any other cough remedy/ decongestant, as there are ingredients in them that children should never comsume. (Which makes me wonder what on earth must be in there, given that some used to be suitable from 3-6months!)

Does anyone perhaps have any suggestions, as it's heartbreaking to see her in such agony during her coughing fits, which usually result in her choking and being terribly sick. :(

As I say, I'm sorry it's O/T, but just wanted to make others aware that could perhaps be giving their children these meds at the moment, just in case.

    Hiya Couttsey
Awful to see bairns getting in such a state when they have a coughing fit isn't it? It's nature's way though of getting rid of the excess secretions so best not supressed or dried up with medicines. Plenty of drinks should soothe her throat and lessen the coughing a bit, also you can buy simple linctus over the counter (check with the pharmacist first as always) which should soothe her throat too.

You could also try keeping the air quite humid which will help, if you don't have a humidifier then a wet cloth on the radiator should moisten the air a bit. A warm bath in a steamy bathroom should settle her before bed too.

By the way, the pharmacist told me that the age for medised had been changed because of people not being clear about the ingredients and so combining it with other medicines that it shouldn't be combined with. Apparently, this had resulted in some deaths of babies, so they changed it. Sorry for off topic information.
