How can I stop my naughty rabbit eating my plants?!

Hi there,
Another word of warning.
One of my rabs used to run around the garden, until he helped himself to some suet based bird pellets(in an area he wasn't supposed to be able to get to), he died of the gut stasis that resulted. :-(
So just make sure that everything in the garden is definitely safe for them.
I fence off the whole of my lawn with a home-made chicken wire and bamboo cane arrangement, which I can take up and down fairly easily. That seems to be working quite well at the moment, as long as they don't learn to dig!
Good luck with whatever plan you try!

show it the frying pan,bag of flour, bag carrots etc- soon get the message [very bright rabbits...unlike humans apparently]

:rotfl:Might have to try that! She is quite small though, so I think she might know that there wouldnt be much meat on her for us to eat!
Thanks for the warning about the foxes, I do only put her out when I am able to keep a close eye on her, but it's quite scary to think that they will do that in daylight! They must be very hungry!
I had to rescue one of them from a crow once, she was laid on her back with her belly exposed and this evil looking crow was standing over her, about to peck her belly with his sharp beak! Ive got no idea why she was just going to lie there and let him do it!
I think I will just have to grow extra plants so that we wont notice if a few disappear lol! I will update if I buy the Grazers stuff on whether it works or not, in case anyone else is interested. I guess I was just hoping there might be a cheaper version!0 -
A cheaper version would be to do the garlic mix, it might work, not saying it will mind, it will only be cheaper in the short term though, have you seen the price of garlic in the shops?
Of course you could grow your own, but then you are back to the problem of the [STRIKE]pie filling[/STRIKE], sorry the bunny, eating plants you grow. Then again, if it eats the garlic you are growing, then there is not much point spraying it over plants you want to stop it eating is there?

How about growing loads of something he loves to distract him? Or have a little "rabbit salad" patch?
You could grow your stuff in raised beds, or in pots (the bigger the better). Or fence your veg patch off or his area in. Mesh fence in pretty cheap. Or even slabs sunk into the ground, if you can get some cheap/free.
Or a moat!0 -

Ha ha, yes a moat would be brilliant! Although we used to have a pond and she managed to fall in that, so even a moat may not deter her!!!
Hmmm, a rabbit salad patch might work! Do you think if I put signs up so she knew what she was allowed to eat that would work?!
She is actually being good today and hasnt had a single bite yet, so maybe the attraction has worn off?!0 -

Sounds like a good plan, I might try that and if it works I will know that I can safely grow garlic without her nibbling it, to make more with! I did let her eat a potato wedge with garlic seasoning on it once though, and she seemed to like it! :eek:0 -
