End an eBay auction early to the highest bidder - Question?

I've received a question from a buyer and I've said I would accept a Buy it Now on an auction of £50.

The current high bid is £16.

They are saying I should end the auction and then they will send me the £50, but I'm wondering, If I end the auction now, whilst it is at £16, will that mean that they will get it for £16, and thus pulling a fast one?

Thanks!
=)

You can end an auction early and sell to the current high bidder or cancel all bids and end auction. You can't end an auction with less than 12 hours remaining.

But will it sell at the current bid price, or the higest bid the bidder is willing to pay?

You have two choices, cancel all bids or sell for the high bid price (£16).

If you want to conclude the sale through Ebay you would have to end auction and cancel all bids and relist as a buy it now for £50 and let your buyer know.

  • I'm going to leave the auction running as normal, I've told the buyer what will happen if I end the auction now, so if they still want to buy it, they'll keep the bid, it's not like they would've got it any sooner anyway, being bank holiday weekend.

It's a bit suspicious really... Hmmm

thats what i would have done too, espically if it ends soon and cant be sent till tuesday anyway cause of b.h

had you have ended at £16 thats what it would have sold for and you would be out of your pennies
  • They probably expect it to go for more than £50 and are trying to get it cheap. As you say with Easter it's not like they'll get it that soon. Personally I wouldn't end an auction with bids - it's a bit unfair to the people bidding on it especially if it's an uncommon item.

I'd have just asked them to send the ££ to my paypal and then closed the auction.

I do it all the time both buying and selling.

If the current bid is £16 and he offers £50, you either need to cancel and do the transaction outside of ebay, or relist as a BIN at £50.

I've done it when the winning bidder on my item turned out to be a nigerian scammer. The second highest bidder contacted me on ebay and offered their price for it.

Turned out quite well. I got the full value, didn't have to pay ebay fees as I claimed these back due to the non paying buyer (the nigerian).
