    To Black Saturn,

Yes we do have council tax benefit but i still have to pay a little bit of it every month which is silly cos i am only paying for myself as my Oh is full time student so he is eligible to free council tax.
i am currently waiting to find out what my payment plan for council tax as new fianical year in april.

    To Amanda65 *i think*

I should really write everything what i spend on, so thank you for that suggestions, i think i know where it is going on - magazines, junk food cos me and Oh have an abnormal addiction to Junk food!! :rotfl:

Junk food is really very expensive, I should know, I'm addicted to it!

Check out the money saving old style board for ideas on how to cook very cheaply, but with food that tastes better than anything you could get in a takeaway!

    (Why is chocolate so expensive?!!)

    SVM-

I am not using my deafness as an excuse, I have done more in the last year and this year, last year i went to college part time to train in Manicure and Pedicure and tried to find a job to no avail as there no vacancies just now, i have searched on jobcentre, looked around beauty shops to see if they have any vacancy but no. so i am back to college again part time to do art studies to pass the time and gain more confidence. My OH has applied for jobs and most of them wouldnt even reply back at all.
I also have a RNID Employment Adviser who is helping me with the job search so i am not sponging off the state as u call it. I genuinely want a job so i am trying hard and getting qualifications to show that i have some skills.
I dont apprecicate you giving me a lecture when u know and I know quite a lot of deaf people are out of work, and rather to be on benefits. that not the case for me!

SVM- u did come across a bit harsh but i didnt mind as it was refreshing to hear it from another deaf person's view on situation as all deaf people i know are out of jobs and always say things like oh get pregnant to get a bigger house which i refuse to do so! I have made my bed and now i must lie in it. :j

It might even be worth contacting some helpcenters for jobs etc :) There is no reason you can't deal with queries logged through internet and e-mail even if you can't answer the phone :) Granted your English must be good to be able to sell yourself to the employer but I think if I had the choice of a proven hard worker who could deal with a large volume every day for me then I would consider if this would outweigh the loss of that persons ability to answer the phones as the other agents burden would be less :)

If need be then make a CV and start sending it to job adds yourself as well as contacting recruiment agencies. Send them 2nd class to save postage ;) Take the time to sell yourself properly in your covering letter though and if you think it applies to a certian company then point out what a benefit it could be for them to have a deaf person. Many customers who are deaf would feel reassured that you understand their position :) Its shamelss self promotion but all is fair in uhmmm jobs and uhmmm jobs ;) Besides if you aren't afriad to use this to your advantage then maybe the bosses can see how they can use having a deaf employee to THEIR advantage which although isn't the point then so long as you get your foot in the door... right? :)

Tine- I hadnt thought it like that! promoting my deafness to be a good use is quite good point. Yes i do have good English grammar due to my mum making me read books and taking time over my english grammar, doing work at same level as a hearing person, I even went to hearing school so all is well there.
I will try that definately and see if i got tons of job offers!! Fingers crossed!! :T

Exactly! ;) See there IS positives to everything :) It's all about how you sell yourself! The more positive you are the more likely you are to get a good job :) I run a techncial support help centre and if someone can impress me at the interview but don't have the technical background then I will give them the job over someone who comes across as sullen (not saying you do!) or arrogant but is super technical. Why? I can teach them IT skills... I CAN'T teach them to be a positive and nice person to work with. And if they can't at least appear positive during their interview then in my experience they are even less so on a day to day basis.

If you want something else to do in the mean time then why not try (yes I know this is duller than a dull thing with dull written on it) envelope stuffing from home? It's not great money I am sure, but it IS money :) And even doing this shows people you are willing to do any job you need to because you don't want hand outs :) I have hired waiters with IT degrees because when they came here they wanted a job. ANY JOB and that was what they could get. As far as I am concerned that shows they aren't shy to do whatever work they need to to get by and I respect that as an employer :)

Out of interest... where in the UK are you based?

My OH is a Scot ;) And well in all fairness they don't speak english at the best of times hehehehe I dont' think being deaf is a bad thing up there especially not when you have to listen to him in a bad mood ;)
