how to combat shiny skin. Please help!

Hi everyone:)
I'm getting married in August, and would like to be shine free for the day lol.
I was wondering if anyone had tried any products that actually work, I was debating trying the Lancome products out, but i have already spent money on products that just don't work for longer than 1 hour. I have tried the cheaper products such as boots no7 matte base and the tea tree products.
I really don't want to look back on my wedding photos and see a reflection on my face, so any advise would be gratefully received.

I have combination/T-zone oily skin - still, at the age of 48!!!!! :eek:

I've recently tried the mineral makeup - the powder one that you put on with a brush and I love it. I only tried a "budget" brand (Max Factor, I think - too lazy to go and check) to see how I got on and it's brilliant.

The other thing I love is Guerlain Les Voilettes a beautiful, soft powder with a built in powder-puff. You should be able to dab it on before and leave it in the car (assuming the same car is taking you away from the ceremony).

I really think that a quick flick with powder immediately before the ceremony is the way to go

you could get some blotting paper for on the day just in case I am trying to think.....I think you need a light product on your face liz earles lighter moisturiser could be good or philosophys hope in a jar both these are like whipped cream and not heavy on the skin x

Im going to sound like a broken record here and say that the OCM has really dried my face up so that shine isnt a big problem now.That and using mineral make up - that doesnt clog or cake so can touch up as often as needed

Other then that Estee Lauder Double wear foundation and powder ( got me through my wedding pictures)

Are you having your make-up done for the day? If so have a chat to the make-up artist and see what she suggests to help.

Also, pop to your local department store and go to all of the different stands and see what they say, you 'll prob get some samples.

I used to suffer terribly from oily skin, but since I changed jobs in Feb and gone from an office with air-con to an office without it, I have barely noticed any oilyness in the daytime!

I used to suffer from really shiny skin, but read a recommendation for milk of magnesia somewhere and since using this firstly every night and now once a week it has made a huge difference.

It's available from chemists and supermarkets, need to dab some on cotton wool and then all over face just before bed or for 10-15 and then wash off as normal.

I would recommend using it now to see if it does make a difference.

Thank you all for your advice.
I was thinking of hiring someone to do my make up on the day, but still not sure on that yet.
Also I have now planned to go to a couple of department stores and get some samples.
I like think i would like to try the decleor products though, they sound really good, so i will look into them. And the guerlain powder sounds and looks lovely, might have to save all my survey and cash back site reward vouchers for that:)

apply loose powder over your foundation with a brush rather than the pad provided. Also, you could get a friend to carry some powder -so when it's time for photos you can quickly powder and de-shine!

Hi there,
I too have shiny skin, mostly my forehead and i use Smashbox Primer Light (they now do a 'Light' version for shiny/oily skin)
I use it over my moisturiser once dry then foundation etc Seems to last for many hours.
Ive noticed a difference inparticular in photographs my forehead is not as shiny as what it usually is.
Its about £19 on ebay and mines lasted almost 4months so far....

Hope you manage to find something to suit for skin for your big day.

I too have oily skin and a shiny face used to be the bane of my life. That was until I discovered Clinique's Pore Minimizer t-zone shine control product. It is the most amazing product and I cannot recommend it enough. It is a gel which you can apply either under or over make up. I find it works best applied over the top of my foundation (I use Estee Lauder double wear which is also excellent). A small amount dabbed onto my t-zone in the morning means that my face stays lovely and shine free all day. I have tried all sorts of products over the years including the no.7 one, Smashbox and various blotting papers none of which really worked. Since discovering the Clinique one I cannot be without it. It's not too expensive either (around £11 I think?) and it lasts for ages. Brilliant stuff.
