Fair price for removals in and out of storage?

Hi all,

I'm finding it quite a time consuming job arranging for removal companies to come out and give me quotes for removals and storage and I'm running out of time.

I want to move our house contents into storage for 1 1/2 months and then into our new build house. So far the best quote we have had for this is £1090 (inc VAT) for the moving and £36 (inc VAT) a week for storage with 30k of insurance. Does this seem like a fair price?

The first move into storage is 25 miles and the second move from storage to our new house is 15 miles so the distances aren't great. We intend to do our own packing.

Thanks for your help,
Ross.

Sounds like a good price to me! storage is a killer and i have been quoted £750 just to move 25 miles.
Debt free and plan on staying that way!!!!

Depends on how much stuff you have to move, where in the UK you are, and when you want to undertake the work.

I am a manager of a large removal company, and if you post this information, I will be able to tell you if the price is fair.

    Hi DarkHorse,

We are located in Cambridgeshire and have a 3 bed end terrace with a garage. In terms of the amount of space we require, I found out when we had all the carpets refitted at the same time I was easily able to fit all our furniture into 1 standard sized garage and a box room 1.8 * 1.2m. We are aiming to move at the end of the month (hence the running out of time part).

As things have happened so quickly since we had an offer accepted and accepted one ourselves I'm tempted just to go with the quote I mentioned so I can cross it off my list of things to do.

    Thanks.

Into store price should be around £500.00 + VAT (and optional insurance, rate depends on company but should be 10-15% of removals and storage costs (are they FSA registered or are they extending their liability??)

Storage should be 5-6 storage containers. Normally these are charged at a rate of £6.00 -12.00 per container per week (again + VAT and optional insurance).

Out of store removal to your new house £350.00 - £450.00 (again + VAT and optional insurance).

Therefore your price seems fair to me. Lastly try to ensure that the company you are moving with is a member of the British Association of Removers, and good luck!

Sounds about right to me too. I've been doing exactly the same - they charged me around £500 for each move. It's apparently a case of paying the daily rate each time. Then the container storage - I think I've got 4 containers at a rate of £7 per week (+VAT of course!).
