Wedding dress woes

Hi all,

Am posting on behalf of my fiancee who has had some trouble with her wedding dress (gulp). She bought it from a local wedding shop who had a seamstress who was going to do the alterations until the shop (and the seamstress) decided to move 50 miles away without telling us!

Does anyone know of any seamstresses/dressmakers in the Ilkley area (LS29) who will do alterations for a wedding dress? Many of the shops won't help because she didn't buy the dress from them. Wedding is on 1st August.

Thanks so much,

Rob (on behalf of Linz)

If there's a local sewing/haberdashery shop then it's always worth asking in there, as they generally know all of the local people who do dressmaking and alterations.

I searched high and low when I needed alterations - I knew some of the dry cleaning chains offer this service, but I didn't trust them! So I ended up asking in department stores (Debenhams and House of Fraser) as I figured they must do lots of alterations and success! My House of Fraser uses a local seamstress and gave me her number - so if your OH is really stuck, that might be an worth a go.

    Good luck.

Thanks for the advice guys, we have checked the yellow pages but were only able to find the larger wedding dress stores which won't let us use their seamstresses! Good tip about the department stores and sewing shops, we'll check them out. Thanks guys!

    Hi
What an awfull situation i take it the wedding isnt far off if she is having alterations now. Try looking in the free papers as well you may consider taking out a small add in the local paper as well but make sure you get recomendations before allowing them near the dress if you go this route. Also try asking the place you are hiring the suits from they will have their own people who do alterations and if you are spending money with them they may be more willing to help. I was in a similar situation as i imported my own dress from america but i managed to find a really good seamstress who did a fantastic job for me. Goodluck with your search and i hope your day goes beautifully for you both. :-)

When I needed bridesmaid dresses altering my weding dress shop couldn't do it in time but they recommended a woman who lives just of the roundabout on the ring road to Rodley (1 or 2 on from pudsey asda)

Contact Eleanor Rossini - that's the bridal shop in Rodley- lovely, lovely shop and owner ans ask her for the recommendation.

    Good luck
