Add Firewire to Laptop

I have a Dell Inspiron 1501 and would like to transfer stuff from the camcorder but, dont know how to do this. I was advised by a friend to get a card of some description but I dont know what type of card or where it goes any help would be appreciated. Thanks so much Jacqui

A PCMCIA Firewire card should do the trick:

In the PC Card (AKA PCMCIA) slot, usually in the side of the laptop. Most have them, but netbook-style ones may not.

fwor, I think the Inspiron 1501 has an Express Card slot, not PC Card?
Dell started switching about 3 years ago, I have an older Inspiron 1300 and that also has Express Card.

That's a good point - an ExpressCard slot apparently looks very similar to PCMCIA. Ebuyer also sell Expresscard to Firewire interfaces, but they are a lot more expensive.

If you're happy to wait for the long-distance shipping you can get ExpressCard adaptors on Ebay from Hong Kong for around £18.
