I have a Dell Inspiron 1501 and would like to transfer stuff from the camcorder but, dont know how to do this. I was advised by a friend to get a card of some description but I dont know what type of card or where it goes any help would be appreciated. Thanks so much Jacqui

Thanks for this but where does it go?0

In the PC Card (AKA PCMCIA) slot, usually in the side of the laptop. Most have them, but netbook-style ones may not.0

fwor, I think the Inspiron 1501 has an Express Card slot, not PC Card?
Dell started switching about 3 years ago, I have an older Inspiron 1300 and that also has Express Card.No free lunch, and no free laptop

That's a good point - an ExpressCard slot apparently looks very similar to PCMCIA. Ebuyer also sell Expresscard to Firewire interfaces, but they are a lot more expensive.
If you're happy to wait for the long-distance shipping you can get ExpressCard adaptors on Ebay from Hong Kong for around £18.0
