Well, it sounds like the only choice is to rent. My brother is in a similar situation. He earns 13k a year and the average price of the cheapest 1 bed flat within a 20mile radius of where he works is about 100k. He has a 20k deposit, but even then he has a cat in hells chance of ever being able to afford his own place. The only real alternative for him is to buy a caravan.

I live in a terrace and I hate it so I can see your dh point of view, I have ppl all round me and it makes me feel trapped, if the kids place in the garden then the whole terrace echos..... I live in a small village surrounded by fieldes, I think i would have less ppl watching me if I lived in a town.
Debt free and plan on staying that way!!!!
  • Contact local housing associations and get on the waiting list for shared ownership, the properties will be in high demand so it could take a long time before you get offered anything. The fact that you know you'll be asked to leave in the future and the overcrowding (and possibly even your disabilities if you find it hard to manage in your current home e.g. cottages often have steep, narrow stairs) will add "points" to your application. In the meantime, use the wonderful advice on these boards to cut your outgoings so you can start saving some money for a deposit. Good luck!

The advice on here is good but I think the most obvious thing to do is to talk to your landlord and be realistic about things. You need to know if he intends on ejecting you in the near future. Once you and the lardlord have spoken and you have a clear view as to how long you have left in the property you can start planning properly. Start saving and hope that you have few years left to save. I am in a similar situation my partner and I rent and feel it is unstable and we want a 3bed Semi for us and our twin daughters but where we live this will be at least £250,000. We are both early 20's and have very little deposit... but we are saving like crazy for a deposit I advise you to do the same. If you do have 3 years until you can work once you are you will have 3 years savings and two jobs between you and should be able to secure a better mortgage than £90k... good luck..
