It was never going to be easy, you didnt think they were just going to pay out for the car and the mods as well. They want to get away with as little as possible. David made it sound as though it was all cut and dried and they would pay out without a fight, not a chance.
Being a dealer myself i would try to find fault at every turn and the best way to do this is by focusing on your mods. If insurance companies can get out of paying then they will.0 -

It will not be the garage who will make things hard for you, it will be their insurance company. For arguments sake, if the cars worth 5 grand and then you also state that you had 2 grands worth of mods the insurance company are going to be a bit annoyed with paying out for 2 grands worth of mods so they try to find ways out of paying for them.
Im just saying that insurance companies do not enjoy paying out, they will if possible get out of it. Hopefully your solicitor will sort you out. good luck0 -
What does the garage reckon? Are they a reputable place?
As Burbs points out, if it costs extra money to fix something, people/insurers will try to get out of paying it whether it's fair or not. Unfortunately, arguments for not paying out for the mods is that they weren't worth what you reckon, or they didn't add any value over a standard car.
That said, a reputable dealer will not want their name mudded with anything that indicates they didn't look after your car while it was in their "care" (hence the damage), or didn't go out of their way to sort the problem.
Best of luck, and let us know how you get on.0 -
Get them to pay out for standard car and then transfer the modified parts/complete engine over.
Remember, modifications never add any value to the vehicle, except in the eyes of a small number of enthusiasts maybe.Happy chappy0
