Techies..
It's a Lacie d2 HD 120gb FW DV...
Having used it for several years with success it is now playing up..
..Used to 'kick in' eventually though with 'spinning' sounds..now no longer kicking in and just gives off a starting sound attempt, like the motor isn't powering up (can hear it attempting to...and continuing to attempt for hours!)
Have previously been using it with my G4 MDD apple mac , I think when I tried to plug it into my acer laptop is what may have triggered the final problem..
Have I permanently lost the data? Is there a way to recover it etc...
Any help much appreciated..

It might just be the external motor that has failed, if this is the case then you would be able to remove the drive from the casing and either plug it into a computer or another casing and recover your data.
If this does not work you would need to send it away to a specialist data recovery company which will cost a LOT of money.0 -
Does the power supply have 4 pins in the connector? Where I work we've had two Lacie PSUs cause problems - one just today as it happens. They were delivering some power but evidently not enough. I wonder if those PSUs are generally a bit carp.
It would be hard to confirm without having another one to test with.
Hard drives occasionally give you warning of impending doom. It's best to take heed when this happens. Or alternatively have a backup strategy that renders device failure a mere inconvenience rather than an expensive disaster...0 -
Yes it is a 4 pin. I'll see if I can get a hold of another connector to test. A process of elimination first I guess. Thanks for your thoughts so far...0
