Don't waste your time with this account like I have just done. At present I use an overdraft facility pretty much constantly on a Barclays graduate account and as they have just bumped up their fees I looked to switch to something cheaper.

Alliance and Leicester promise an "overdraft matching service". Don't believe it - what they don't tell you is that you are expected to show a statement proving your account spends at least 15 days a month in credit in order to match an overdraft. For me, this somewhat defies the whole point of having an overdraft facility in the first place. As such, they won't give me an overdraft. You have to apply to find this out though.

Also, their customer service is crap. I went into a branch to talk to someone about my options, hoping for someone to explain things (like previously hidden terms described above). Instead I got a guy who sat opposite a desk dialling the customer service number for me and staring into the distance like he'd had a lobotomy whilst I sat for fifteen minutes listening to the customer service hold music. They eventually explained the 15 day (and other) rules. If branch staff don't know anything and have no authorisation to do anything, there isn't much point in visiting one. You certainly don't get to avoid being put into a telephone queue by turning up in person. Utterly dreadful - avoid like the plague.
