LCD is far better. Plasma is more expensive to run and as someone else said, you get picture burn and 'ghosting' with the plasma (well, you might lol) also a chance of pixel damage. It's alot of money to take a chance
Man who run into airport turn-styles is going to Bangkok

I been wondering this too (plasma v lcd) and was in argos.. they happened to have a samsung lcd and a plasma side by side ..(the plasma was cheaper)
I couldnt believe the diffrence the plasma looked quite dull in comparison to the lcd It was quite noticable too my oh had been going on about the quality of plasma's (his mate got one) But when he seen them side by side he changed his mind.
Im now definatly going for the lcd
Paul if you have the chance to pop into a store selling both have a look get the sales people to turn them on if neccesary its amazing how diffrent they are...
Or if your saving for a tv save £2000 and go for the led tv from samsung they are fantastic and new on the market they have individual led's that do the backlighting so you get none of the greying out on dark scenes (so we were told by some fella in maplins)

Apparently, LCDs can look a bit artificially bright and Plasmas are better at grey scenes.

Anyway, in the end went for a 42" LG plasma. Only problem I find is that it pixelates/blurs more for fast moving things (like sport) than the CRT used to.

I have exactly the same TV in the living room but a 32 inch version and I am very impressed. Had a Sony LCD before this one and it was not even close for comparison. I know that technology has moved on a lot but the differerence was outstading. You need to get the best conrast ratios that you can get. It makes a huge differerence.

    The specs:
    • High Definition Ready.
    • Integrated digital (freeview).
    • 32in (81cm) widescreen TV with 81cm visible screen size.
    • Resolution 1366 x 768 pixels.
    • Brightness 450cd/m2.
    • Contrast ratio 18,000:1.
    • Image enhancement.
    • Viewing angle 178 degrees.
    • Progressive scan.
Didnt really need the Freeview part as we have Sky. Gone to Sky HD now and the 18000.1 contrast ratio is awesome. In my opinion the higher the contrast ratio the better.

Think the LG plasma I ended up getting is 30000:1 Contrast.

But of course no dead pixels with plasma.

Got one dead pixel on my LCD in the bedroom and it does me head in !

Having recently made the switch from LCD to Plasma I certainly won't be going back to LCD. IMHO my Panasonic TH42PX80 produces a much more natural-looking picture, LCD's just look oversharpened and as others have said 'fake'. I don't get any motion blur, Sky HD looks awesome and Plasma TVs make a much better job of processing an SD signal than LCDs do.

The horror stories about screen burn are largely overstated, if you're sensible about keeping the contrast, brightness etc low for the first 200 hours whilst the set 'burns in' you shouldn't have any problems. Yes, connecting a PC to it and leaving a windows desktop on the screen for hours at a time may cause a problem, likewise play GTA for hours on end may cause some retention of the permanent on-screen displays but I use mine with my 360 and the set can easily take a couple of hours of gaming with no retention whatsoever.

As for power use, yeah it perhaps is more expensive to run but are you really going to look at your electricity bill and notice a huge leap?
