probably a faulty inverter/backlight.0

Sounds like either the inverter or the LCD screen has failed. This is fixable, but whether it's worthwhile will depend on cost of the job and the age of the laptop etc. See if you can find out the parts cost and get a price from a laptop repair shop (a specialist one, not PCW!) before you decide. No free lunch, and no free laptop

the invertors are quite cheap one ebay just make sure you get the right one. if you let me know what make and model the laptop is i will have a look for some parts for you. I may even have a serivce manual for your laptop to help you along the fixing process.0

could it be a loose connector? I would check www . fixya .com to see if there is a solution and you don't mind fiddling with your computer.
it could be, but that would be an internitent fault and it probably would go completely dark. but if i was going to open up a laptop it would be better to have a cost in mind for some spares and a nice list of them. or just take it to a shop to have them look at it.0 -
the laptop invertor usually sits below the screen under the surround cover which is usually pretty easy to remove - but price can vary alot depending on make/model. they can be pretty fragile though and sensitive to wires being plugged in and pulled out.Don't try to teach a pig to sing - it wastes your time and annoys the pig0
