They have recently put in a couple around Wakefield. The one I go along only runs between 4 - 6pm on M to F but most drivers will not go in it outside of these times. I have had many a row with people who think I am doing wrong by going down it. During operational times I will not go in it. I can make up about 5 - 10 mins by going down it out of the times.

It is not an offence to drive in bus lanes OUTSIDE the hours of restriction. You can be spotted by (and subsequently recieve a ticket) anyone as has been said, traffic warden, cctv, policeman, etc you should not be under the impression that the only thing to be concerned about is bus with onboard cameras.

Its an offence if the bus lane is in operation... my husband put just two wheels into a bus lane while turning into the garage to get fuel and 10 days later a letter with a fine dropped through the door.. when he challenged it they sent us the picture from the cctv camera .... can't argue with that..... he paid the fine.... I think it was £85

You will be lucky to get away with it... make yourself aware of the times that the bus lanes that you are likely to pass are in operation....... there are many exempt vehicles including school buses, taxis, disabled coaches and ambulances I don't believe the police are exempt...
