Fonesure mobile phone insurance

 Have had two phones insured with Fonesure for over 4 yrs paying the highest rate of cover, never had to claim.

Last weekend my son had his mobile phone stolen by a pick pocket, contacted fonesure filled in claim form and got all the info they wanted crime number proof of phone ownership etc Now nearly a week later they have written to him, because it wasnt taken by force or threat they will not pay out :mad::mad::mad: Will now be cancelling both policies. Could understand if it was a young kid and they thought they trying to claim for a lost phone but son is in his 30's and was in a crowd at a night club.

You may find it was covered all along by your home insurers (Who normally do not require the phone to be taken by force). Give them a ring to see if you can claim.

Bear in mind that you will have to pay an excess (Amount you pay towards the claim) and your premiums will probably increase.

For future reference you can cover your phones on your home insurance for about £25 a year which is much much less than you are paying fonesure...
  • I wouldn't recommend insuring with Fonesure.

If you have damage to your phone you have to apply for a claim form which has to be completed with full details of reason for claim. You have to send it off to them and if they approve the claim, they will then ask for payment of excess which in my case was £25.00. You then have to send your phone off to be checked over where they decide whether to repair it or issue you with a new one.

I got stroppy after two weeks and even if they did eventually respond I didn't trust them enough to send a £25.00 excess and upgraded my phone on my contract in order to receive a new one. I wish I had done that in the first place.

Other people inform me that with their insurance on phones once you notify the company they will send a new phone within 24 hours and you package up and return your damaged phone.

So check who your phone insurance is with and if it has this policy don't insure with them. Orange insurance seems a much better option though not sure this is the cheapest.

I feel I have been well stung. 18 months of paying £6.99 for nothing - Could have bought a new phone!!!!
  • Caveat emptor... CUSC/fonesure insurance refused to pay out on my smashed iPhone, purchased online from the Apple Store, as the receipt did not list the 'phones IMEI. That was £64 down the drain...

However, they were happy enough to take the premium payment with exactly the same information.

    Definitely would not recommend fonesure!
  • Just make sure that you are either mugged, robbed or stabbed before claiming your phone was stolen as that is the only way fonesure will acknowledge your claim, anything lesser than that you have nil chance of your claim being looked at.
