I'd second the TPS service - we hardly ever get any cold calls now, and its fun, if you can be fagged, when one does break through the barbed wire - they can be fined up to £5k for flouting the rules - so you get the company details, find out where the head office is, get a manager to speak to you (all the while feigning great interest excitement in the product/competition/prize), then let them know that they have broken the law - really! - and that you will be reporting them. For a quieter life, just hang up - as we only get about one call a year, it's not that much hassle anymore.Reason for edit? Can spell, can't type!0

(1) Register all your number with TPS - tpsonline.org.uk
(2) If you pay line rental to BT sign-up for BT "Privacy At Home" - bt.com/btprivacy
(3) Get yourself a TrueCall unit - truecall.co.uk ACR is expensive so the unit will pay for itself quickly. It can mimic ACR by rejecting all anonymous callers but it's actually better than ACR because you can set it to automatically reject any call with a specific callerID whilst friends and family can get straight through.
In general, be careful about giving out your home phone number. Competitions are a well known method companies use to harvest consumers details. It helps to reduce your junk snail mail. Getting your details off marketing lists prevents the clearing houses from cross-referencing your name/tel. number with your name/address. So, you'll need to register with the MPS, too (mpsonline.org.uk)0 -
Why don't you do as I do, Say "can you just hold on for a moment" then leave the phone on and go and watch the telly. as long as you leave the phone off the hook I don't think they can use it again.
Works for me... Peter:rotfl:0 -
I would love one of these Truecall devices. But it's a bit overpriced and we don't get that many calls now anyway.Striving to clear the mortgage before it finishes in Dec 2028 - amount currently owed - £16,087.170
