Employment

I have just left my employment of three years on the basis of being offered alternative employment, by written confirmation. The company advised in the letter they would be writing shortly to confirm a start date, and three months later i have not received any acknowledgement. Any help guys would be of great help. Many Thanks.

Hi and welcome
Have you rung up the company who claimed to be offering you the job?
See if you can go back to your old employer? Sorry to sound harsh but it was a bit dumb chucking in your job on the verbal promise of another when they havent sent you written confirmation.0 -
I have to agree you were slightly naive in handing in your resignation without a definite start date but that's the mess you find yourself in and now have to deal with.
I think your best bet is to actually go and see them and discuss the situation......are they still trading for example?2014 Target;

Yes they are still trading, but I had received a letter of confirmation from the company that they would be in contact with a start date. I have since written to the company and telephoned advising that I had given notice to my employer. They have not responded in writing but advised by phone that it would be a few months. I considered the letter to be a offer of employment. Is there anything more that I could consider . ?0

The letter was an offer of employment, but did it specify when?£705,000 raised by client groups in the past 18 mths :beer:0

no it did not have a date on the letter but advised would be in contact shortly.0

Yes it was an offer of employment to which you agreed to (so I guess a contract does exist between you) but did it never occur to you that until you had a start date it would be silly to resign?
I think your best bet is to
a) arrange a meeting between you and their HR to discuss when they envisage you starting
b) looking for temporary work in the meantime.
I take it that you can't claim JSA as it looks on the face of it that you voluntarily lost your job?2014 Target;

This challenge is no different to anyone else who changes role as payments etc are often made at different times and there is a transition period.
Most people make use of overdrafts or ask the new employer for an advance.
Your thinking is flawed as your circumstances are very common when people start new jobs0 -
Yes I did not consider the implications this would involve, but on the fact of the matter is when you receive a letter from a prospective employer whom states you have been sucessfull for the position. I dont think a meeting with the company would help as I feel it has not be honerable enough.
With the JSA aspect, yes I did leave voluntairly but I do not consider JSA to be of help. And as to the last thread i do not think it is of an idea to make people get more in debtness by the use of a overdraft.0 -

I think you have your threads crossed as the OP is not asking anything to do with salary payments......one rant too many perhaps?2014 Target;

But Mike if in the offer letter it stated that it would confirm a start date that would have rung alarm bells for me - usually such letters ask YOU to confirm a start date.
Three months is a long time to leave somebody without a start date - and again the fact that they haven't contacted you suggests to me that they have / are rethinking their recruitment policy.
Yes they haven't acted honourably but are you going to sulk in the corner until you hear from them? YOU have to be pro-active in this - and a face to face meeting will give you more clues as to why they've not been in contact
Again JSA isn't the answer but what are you living on at the mo?2014 Target;
