Sony A1000 6GB MP3 Player software probs

A relative has recently bought this sony mp3 player, looks great, but as is well reported on the internet - the software is useless beyond belief and one must go through the software to load music onto the player.

I have managed to copy the majority of music from the harddrive onto the sony mp3 player, but it will not allow licensed downloads from tesco.com to be loaded onto it. My relative has just bought a a £10 amount of music and its essential to upload this onto the player.

At the moment it is not even recognising the music even though its in WMA format, i have others which are not protected so i am assuming this is the problem.

If i had known of these problems i would of said to go for another player but now as its bought, has anyone got a solution - i am at breaking point. Large amount of money into the hardware but none into the software it would seem.

I have never downloaded music from the web (legally) so i wouldnt know I was sent some itunes stuff and I hade to reencode it to mp3 beofer it would go on to my sony HD3 and sisters A3000.

or you could use winamp set to output to wave to disk so you get a wave file which you should be able to import in to the connect software, try to get hold of a later version of sonic stage, it is much better than the new software but not brilliant

The Sony software is known the be quite buggy. I can't remember what it's called for the mp3 players, but I had it for my net minidisc player and it was heavy, bloated and prone to crashing.

As far as I know, WMA files with DRM (protection) are not supported, although not protected ones are. Although having said that I think earlier versions didn't support WMA natively, so you may need to go to the Sony site and download a firmware update.

You could try taking it back??? Was close to buying one myself, but didn't/haven't because of the problems you mentioned. I'm still holding off until a memory based equivalent of the Nano comes out.

There is a program that re-records and converts drm,wma protected files, but its not free though, but you can get a trial version.

Have you tried downloading SonicStage from the sony website. This alternative software connects OK to our Sony A1000 and seems stable.
