I think I may have Windows Defender running - do I need to scrap that now?

Since I did the Malwarebytes I haven't rebooted yet.

Any help would be much appreciated as I'm not too techie and need a step by stepish guide.

there is the problem. reboot and scan the machine again with Malwarebytes'

also you should only have 1 anti virus installed at any one time as they tend to confilct with each other...

why? when Malwarebytes' has already found the problem and told her to re-boot.

nothing else is going to be found is they cant update the database. and TBH isntead of download yet more stuff and having to uninstall things i would reboot and run it again. its quicker to reboot and run a scan than it is to mess around sorting other software out.

there may be running processes that MBAM hasnt picked up.

it took nearly an hour and a half to run a scan. it takes say 10mins to download hijack and burn it to a cd/copy it to a memory stick and a few seconds to scan

Id guess parts of AVG are still trying to run too which wont be helping matters and HIJACK will highlight this

but wont they still have the virus??? i know what you are getting at and i would install HJT once the virus had gone to sort out the other bits of AV that are left over.

tom - MBAM has found SOME problems and cleaned them....the whole point is that hjt will HELP identify any other infections in order to clean them out..

...bet you use molegrips for ALL your DIY, too ;)

very good, I was trying to get rid of the virus at the end of the log which seemed to be causing the problems... then i would start looking at the other problems.

just mole grips arnt usefull when building houses, rally cars and computer, you need proper tools for that. however i have got a mate that turned up to help replace an engine with some tools....... molegrips, a small pin hammer and a set of spanners he picked up from the supermarket on the way... the useless chump.
