Just set up a basic bank account and i'm in the process of changing payments over to the new account.
Just been on the Child Ben site and you can change your circumstances online which is great BUT I don't know what my child ben number is as I haven't had a letter from them in years and they have paid into my bank account for a good number of years now.
I've checked my bank online and it is showing me a 12 digit ref number but on the CB site it asks for your number and says it is an 8 digit number with 2 letters on the end.
Does anyone know if would be the first 8 digits of the 12 I have, or the last 8 and do they all have the same letters on the end?
I can ring them tomorrow, but would they give me that info over the phone??

I have a letter from them every year when the amount changes cos of the April increases. My money is paid into the bank every 4 weeks. I will try to find my letter and look at the ref no, but I'm sure someone will be along soon who knows more.0

Ive just checked my online banking against my CB number, its the 1st 8 digits that's your CB number.I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.0

I didn't think of that and I should be getting one of those update letters soon but I really need to change it ASAP before I close my current bank account.
On the online form, I put the first 8 digits of the ref number shown on my bank statement, plus CB on the end, and it did let me go to the next page to fill in the new bank details but I bottled out of going any further just incase it is the wrong number lolTank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...0 -
I dont have any numbers on my bank statement ref, the best thing to do is to ring them, if you email them from the site and ask for the number it'll take forever.
My CB number has KB as the two letters.I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. Thanks, good job I didn't just put the first 8 numbers and CB at the end then! LOL
I'll ring them in the morning and see if they can give me my child ben number, then I'll do the change of circumstance onlineTank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...0 -
Just a quick update to say I rang Child Ben and they give me my number and also did the change of circumstance there and then over the phone.
They also can notify the tax credits of my new bank account too, so that has saved me making a phone call to them!Tank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...0 -
