Antivirus?

Had an e-mail from BT to tell me the Norton they provide will stop working and I should install McAfee. How ever I hate McAfee with passion!

What is the best/most reliable anti virus?

Thanks

If you MUST buy one ~ 'Kaspersky' is the one to go for

To be honest, I wouldn't touch Norton with a bargepole. I've known it to severely affect performance & other software. It can also be a pain to remove fully (so much so that they actually write a tool to remove the remnants properly).

Kapersky sounds like a good recommendation.
I've always like Eset Nod32 myself, simple & doesn't try to do too much.

It's also a consistently excellent performer in the rankings for actually detecting viruses.

Or...get avira or avast for free, and both perform very well

Kaspersky, Avast or AVG are all pretty decent. Anything is better than Norton which is just bloatware.

I used to use both of these prior to switching to Nod32 (used Avast until 18 months ago).

If 'free' is a factor, then I'd recommend Avast.

I've known a few cases of AVG missing spyware etc.

I wouldn't say the free ones are as good as the best commercial products, but they're a good trade off for an average user that isn't trying to visit every malware-riddled site out there ;)

Avira (free) has a better detection system than the VAST majority of 'paid for' av programs (Including Nod 32)

  • What about Norton 360 v3.0? Anyone any experience on this?

It's Norton, so it will take over your computer, then your fridge, then your TV and eventually it will control you...

    Norton is EVIL!!!

If you want to pay for Anti-virus softare, then get Kaspersky...

If you want it free, then get Avast (I've been using it for over 4 years and NEVER had a problem with viruses or spyware)
If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands
