No signal on Freeview TV

recently bought a cello LCD from netto but unable to use it as it says no signal.
Is there any way i can get around not having an outside aerial. Live in a flat on 2nd floor cant possibly get up on the roof and dont want to pay a lot of money for this to be done either.

Help:confused:

  • Sadly with freeview you need an outdoor areial. I used to have it in my room but had about 4 leads connected to an old tv aerial and it hung out my window for 2years in all weathers!
Had to put up with no signal in gale force winds and any bit of traffic made it lose signal too! Even when there was a signal I didn't receive every channel!
I eventually gave up and got sky!

Not quite true, many people (us included) get perfect reception using a loft aeriel (not an option for the OP unfortunately).

Which direction are other TV aerials pointing and how big are they? You could maybe fix one on one of the outside walls rather than the roof.

Depends how far you are from the transmitter obviously. Looking at the other TV aerials around your home will give you a clue on what is required.

You may have to wait until analouge is switched off (yesterday in my area). When the changeover to digital is complete the digital signal strength should be strong enough for indoor aerials. As i understand at present 80% of the transmitter goes to analouge and 20% goes to digital and after switchover 100% should go to digital. Other Forum members may have more accurate information.

For upstairs we were using one that was connected to the tv and perched on the bookcase...worked fab.....got a new lcd tv with FV built in and it won't work with it so tried with the freeview box we were using with the old telly and it still wont work....

I prefered my old box of a telly....picture was VERY good.

So yes like you said indoor ariels can work.

forgot to say the one we had had a wee booster box on it.

No, but you can point your outdoor aerial through a window that faces the transmitter. I set up a Vision V10-040 like this in a friend's apartment.

What aerial do you currently have? (e.g. Set top? Loft communal?)

    Also what is your location?
