Freeview and Sky free channels?

Hi everyone

I recently bought a new LCD 32" tv as my previous one went on strike colourwise :D. It comes with Freeview 'built in'.

I have a Sky digibox etc as I was a Sky customer over a year ago. What I wanted to know is; can I use both Freeview and Sky free channels with my new toy? The tv does automatic tuning so if I used that function would it automatically sort out my Sky channels?

Thanks in advance :j

    Hi,

I am sure you can ... cause we do ... but of course we pay for the Sky.

But I am sure that once you have left Sky, you can keep the box & then watch the free to air channels. How was your sky box plugged into your old telly? Scart lead? Do exactly the same ... then Sky should be on one of your AV channels ....

Is your TV HD? You'll only be able to get HD via Freesat (not Freeview) or a SKY HD subscription ... for which you would need a Sky HD box.

You integrated Freeview will be auto tuned via the tv menu's, and you can connect your sky box via scart or other methods and use that also. IIRC sky boxes automatically re tune themselves.

Yes, I have Freeview ( built in ), Freeview(2) via a Humax 9200, Freesat, and FreesatfromSky connected.

    Great. Thanks for your responses.

The digibox is connected via a scart lead and the tv is HD ready so I should be ok I guess.

Of course, this doesn't mean things will go swimmingly but I can only try :D

The fact that your TV is HD Ready doesn't really make any difference, just connect your Sky Receiver via a Scart Cable to the Scart socket marked TV on your Sky receiver, connect the other end to your TV Scart socket, connect satellite cable and mains cable, plug it in, switch on, that should be it.

Yes you can use Sky and your freeview box... although why not just get a freeview card for your sky box and you'll get the same channels :S

Firstly, there is no such thing as a "Freeview" card for satellite. It's a "free to view" card.

Secondly there are many channels available via Freeview that are not free via satellite.

You can use the "Add Channel" function to get things like Channel 4, Channel5....

You cannot get Dave/DavejeVu or Yesterday on a Sky Receiver, so your information is wrong.:(
