Merthyr Tydfil - what to see?

Any ideas where to go close by?

Know Merthyr is not the best of locations, but it is close to the countryside and Brecon Beacons and we hope to use it as a base to travel around.

  • Actually, there is a lot to do if you drive around a bit. You are not too far from Cardiff, or there's the Big Pit at Blaenavon. Seaside- you can head for the coast at Porthcawl or Barry Island, or further away there's the lovely Gower coast and Swansea, with a superb museum.

The Brecon area is good and further afield is the Wye Valley, or Hay on Wye, the book town.

Hope this has given you some ideas. Why not check out the Wales Tourist Board website?

Nothing leave and find somewhere else fast.!!!!!!!!!!!
You could try in land Talybont-on-usk, its a lovely area. There are some waterfalls heading for swansea area. If you have the weather it is worth going for a trip to the mumbles coastline. Caerphilly has a fine castle ruins worth visiting, Cardiff has a good castle and roath park with rowing lake, some good shopping in the town centre always worth a browse.
