OMG! what a day it took SIX hours to get to from near manchester- leaving at 8 am!!!! the traffic and parking was horrendous. The ability to view any race was limited as the place was packed, and its SOO child unfreindly- no baby change anywhere. It took us FIVE hours to get home after leaving the satdium as the car parks were not manned to direct a flow of traffic and main gates were kept closed for too long! we went to Donnington 2 yrs ago which was spectacular and fairly accessable. and Donnington also had more of a "freindly feel" to it.
Great to have had free tickets but next time I'll leave them for some-one else with perhaps not so far to travel.
please note . these are my personal comments and I don't want to be slagged of for them, just needed to inform people for next year..:)

I'm not saying anything against you - i was just prompted by your post...

Following on from my reply above - I have always and always will have a major issue with your subject of "Child Unfreindliness" - I think it is wrong to be encouraging Young Families/Parents with Young Children to events such as this and sites like this that promote them as "Free" days out.

The reason being - Motor racing circuits are not designed for young children to be running around etc, there is not room for buggies in the very crowded areas of the World Series (Grandstands, Tunnels, Bridges etc). The Noise is very loud for a prolonged period of time for young people and 9/10 times i get the impression most kids dont want to be there or dont have a clue whats going on.

I have said this many times and to Renault in their annual survey.

Vaughan as said by many signs - Motorsport is dangerous.

And it's not somewhere to take children, I'd never take my kids near a race track. And I own a track car.

Quite right Keith! - That's why i said above and keep saying about it. Families should not be going purely because it is a cheap/free day out with the kids.

By the way...i'm talking as a Adult (no kids)

Thank you for your valid input, and as a responsible parent had ensured my children were appropriatly (sp)! protected - ear defenders e.t.c . however I did see other children "let loose" and I agree with you that this is in fact advertised as a family day out. and have to say was quite appalled that a family day out includes drinking alcohol whilst the most precious little ones have free reign of a square metre of grass whilst the consumers have their little "party"...ooooppps said to much!
to re-iterate my point. if you live near the destination and are safely equipped then this might be a good introduction to motorsport. however if you just want a free day out with the children, then, as a responsible adult it may be best to choose an alternative.

The F1 display was slightly dissapointing as it was last year's car (R28) - and the current car (R29) went round the same track 2 weeks earlier so that has lost its appeal a bit.

They are not allowed to run this years car as its classed as "testing"

I am a parent of 2 children aged 3 and 11 yo. Both of my son love the races and will be coming back next year. We sat at the grandstand of Abbey infront of the podium first and then moved to Luffield in the afternoon. My eldest had loads of fun doing the simulators and I had the chance to change the tyres in one of the simulation. My youngest did not even want to stay in the free play areas as he wanted to watch the races. Initially he got scared of the sound of the Renault F1 car but has gotten used to it. So my advised is if you have young children like mine, get into the grandstands where there are cover so the sound is not as loud in the terraces. My youngest had so much fun even this morning he is still talking about it and using his toy steering wheel to drive.

Traffic was expected in the morning and we got there by 10am but when we left at 5.30pm, not so much. delayed only for about 15 mins for our total journey of 2 hours.

  • What a fabulous day!!!
Although I agree with others comments about lack of marshalls/traffic etc.
For the peeps who took their "precious little ones"...what were you thinking???
Race track/noise/crowds etc..what do you expect? This in my humble opinion, although is advertised as a family day out, is not for children, as it is far too busy and exceptionally noisy.
We have absolutely no grumbles at all and would like to thank the person who initially posted the link about the tickets..as we would never had known about it, otherwise.
Do they have this every year?
When life throws you lemons...put them in a gin and tonic !!

We went on Saturday and had a great day, its our 3rd time to this event. We're fortunate as we live fairly close to Silverstone and Donnington wasn't too far when it was there.

My boys are 5 and 7yrs old, the younger one and my husband are the one's who really love cars but we all enjoyed the day :j, both my kids wear ear defenders and I saw lots of children wearing them this year.

We arrived about 11am a bit of traffic on the way, we left about 3pm and no traffic at all on the way out. We didn't use the M1 so can't comment on that.

We only spent £4 on a couple of (small) ice-creams for the kids, rip-off prices for that sort of thing. We take a picnic lunch with us.
