What are you using the topsoil for?
Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.

Have a look at turf dealers they normally sell in a tonne bags or wickes, garden centres or even ebay you should pay around £40- £60 per bag

If you need it this weekend the b&q have i think its 4/5 bags for £10 but it would need a fair few bags to cover the area.

hehe dave, very much true - I'm sure you know someone is about to correct you...

    Meantime!

Depends what you want to grow in the 'compost'. The cheapest way is to fill your beds with manure and dig it in to the soil beneath. That's what I did. I successfully grew a good crop of sweetcorn, squashes & courgettes, beans, tomatoes, rhubarb, runner beans etc. Generally manure is free, you find it near places that have horses and some places even bag it up for you.

Year after, you'll need to top it up with something else.

Otherwise contact your local council, sometimes they do bulk deliveries - one of our places does compost for about £60 a half lorry load.

Our local tip sells compost and it's supposed to be cheaper than the shops if that helps?
    If not, how about freecycle?

Please bear in mind that topsoil comes in 2 grades at least, one--the cheapest is just soil complete with weeds etc. You can get weed free treated topsoil which groundsman use but its a lot more expensive. You pays your money and takes your choice.
