Bankrupt relative added as additional cardholder ?

in Credit cards
I have had a Nationwide credit card for a number of years, and have
always kept it in a good state. My question is in the title.
A close relative of mine, was recently made bankrupt, and is not allowed to have (quite rightly), access to his own bank account with a credit card facility. As he travels abroad a number of times a year, he needs to rent a car, which requires a swipe and payment of a credit, (not debit), card, which matches their passport.
I have been into the Nationwide, and got the form to add an additional card holder. It asks for minimal information, ie name, address, date of birth. There is no small print as such, beond it making it clear, that I, as the principal account holder, will be held totally liable for any debt.
I am happy to be the person at risk, and ask if the bank would have any problem with this, or would my goodstanding, carry us through.
Thanks in anticipation of helpful advice.

As the primary account holder you would be responsible for any debt the additional cardholder runs up. Just be aware of the rules.0

Thanks for your reply cifpower,
As I stated in my posting, I realise that I will be the one "carrying the can" if debts arise.
What I am really asking, I suppose; are Nationwide really bothered,as long as they have, in their opinion, someone to settle the debt?0 -
You can add anyone to be an additional cardholder as long as they are over 180

to make life easier for your self...
why dont you get a different credit card, ie capitalone with a reduced limit, so you know the other person cant spend too much and you know that everything spent on that card is their bill
they could also get a pay and go gold card from cash plus these allow hire car and hotel purchases.. they can also report to the credit refrence agaency for them0 -
Yeah I second jayjay's suggestion for them to get a prepaid cashplus gold mastercard - got one myself as I'm bankrupt and it's great, works for car hire and hotel pre-auths etc - ideal, and doesn't put you at risk of having an additional cardholder on your account.

I made it through!
Don't ignore a problem. Unlike a bad smell, it won't eventually go away.0 -

Thanks for that jayjayuk and sieve,
I think that mycashplus is run by AmericanExpress, who my relative is indebted to on the bankruptcy, along with others.0
