We're going to Oulton Broad on Saturday
Staying at Broadland Holiday Park. Does anyone have any ideas on things to do with a dog? I know there is a nice tearoom that sells cakes, we can have them on the way back to the park  . I've also heard that there is boat racing starting on the Thursday along the broads? but that's all i know that is there.
Many thanks

Many thanks

Hi, I live in Oulton Broad so hopefully can help you!
There is a tearoom, Lily May's. Here's their website:
http://www.lilymays.co.uk/
There is also a lovely restaurant called Red Herring, booking advisable but well worth it. It's about 4 doors up from the tea room.
There's a small museum in Everitts Park, which is the park opposite bridge road (tea room and restaurant road).
You will also find a Spar, fish and chip shop, chinese takeaway, selection of pubs and a library along Bridge road.
If you follow along past the park you will see a large pub called the Wherry, which looks out onto a working lock and onto the Broads. Go behind the Wherry for a wonderful pub called the Commodore- gorgeous to sit outside with a drink on a sunny day, they also do a mean scampi and chips! Further along that road and you come to a train station- Oulton Broad North- direct trains to Norwich in half an hour.
The park itself is lovely for a walk around on a sunny day. Also, around 5 minutes along Beccles Road (opposite direction from Broadlands towards Carlton Colville), is a nature reserve called Carlton Marshes:

Very close to this is a lovely hotel/restaurant called Ivy House Farm:

Oulton Broad is actually part of Lowestoft, so if you have a car there are plenty of things to see there too. The north (stony) and south (blue flag sandy) beaches are lovely for a walk, there are piers to get chips and an ice cream etc.
If you plan to explore the area, Southwold is 15 minutes down the A12, and Great Yarmouth is 15 minutes north.
If there is anything more I can help you with it would be a pleasure, hope this helps to start you off!0 -
Forgot to add re powerboats, looks like they are having a practice meeting next Thursday.

Thank you
I will print the list off and take it with me.That is the tea room I was thinking of. I remember going in there a few years ago and getting a scone and cup of tea then sitting in the car in the pouring rain eating it :rotfl:.
Just a couple of questions: Is there a big supermarket like sainsburys/tesco nearby, we are self catering and may need extra supplies. Also what's the parking like in yarmouth? And finally do you know if the beaches allow dogs on them, ours loves playing in the sea

1. Tesco Express is your best bet, 5 minutes along the road from Broadlands. Hoever there's also an Asda in the centre of town near the beach, a Morrisons to the south and a Tesco to the north.
2. Dogs are allowed on the beach until 1st May- you're in luck!
3. Parking for the shops in Yarmouth I would recommend Market Gates multi storey- it's attached to the small mall there (has a debenhams but not much else!). However for the sea front, there are either a couple of pay and displays on the front or plenty of on street parking in the roads surrounding the seafront. Spaces are hard to come by on a sunny day, but we've always found somewhere. You can park for the shops and walk down to the sea front and vice versa.
Enjoy your stay!0
