I would recomend you try The Bothy in Kinnoull Street or Pacos. Lets Eat is also excellent but might be more than your willing to spend.
Re Rancho Pancho its went down hill drasticallu since taking over from Dos Amigos

Duncans - tried it for lunch fab, tried it for dinner and it was average but the service in the evening was dreadful - we were shoved into the window so that they could look busy and then we were forgotten about - but that was a while ago so may have changed. Lets eat is fabulous but if you are in the car head to Stanley just north of Perth to a tiny place called the Apron Stage as the food is superb (ex owners of Lets Eat). Pacos is better than it was a year ago and would recommend the fajitas and the steak. Went to Rancho Pancho for a pre theatre meal and it was very good. Bothy also good but not very quiet. Would also recommend South Street Bistro and for a high street quickie Pizza Express.

This thread has been really useful, as we're going to be in Perth overnight at the beginning of June - not sure yet where we'll go to eat, but it's good to get the recommendations!

    Thanks :)

I live very close to the Apron Stage and it has a fantastic reputation in this area - book in advance as it is tiny!

Pacos is very much along the Littlejohns (as was) line - bought in food, steaks, fajitas, etc. Again can't recommend anyone to Rancho Pancho as I work in the building next to it and see the staff and the back of the building - I would rather eat a Greggs' sandwich than eat in that place!

At the back of the City Hall there is a wonderful Italian restaurant, it may have once been Ciao Roma, the guy who owns it is lovely, the food is fantastic (they do takeaways for us at the office as a work colleague knows him well, so we get sent along treats on a Friday!).

Thanks everyone for giving their suggestions. We ended up going to Pacos for dinner.
We were running 15min late (trying to get 9 women organised is hard!) and they were fine when we turned up.
Food was good and were really helpful with one of the girls as she's intorllerent to some food.
Bill worked out to be £25per head - that was 2 courses (some had 3), wine, spirits, liquours etc.
Will go again if I'm up that way again.

I'm back in Perth next weekend for 3 nights - Thu, Sat and Sun. DH would like to eat Italian, Mexican, and Indian - can anyone recommend places to go?

Would we be advisable to book somewhere for the Saturday night?

Nessie, my brain is not in gear as I was working at the Runrig gig in Perth today and got home at quarter past one this morning! I would book somewhere for the saturday night, Perth is a kind of funny place, sometimes the centre can be packed, other Saturdays it is dead.

i would absolutely recommend the Italian at the back of the concert hall, again I can't remember the name, it might come to me tonight when I have another glass of wine (!).

I can't think of any Indian restaurants in Perth - I know there are some, I probably walk past them all the time but never notice them!

I didn't want to read and run past your post, but I am starting to flag a little, I have the local paper actually in the kitchen, I'll have a look and see what restaurants advertise in it and post again for you tomorrow.

Off for the second glass of wine now - enjoy your weekend in Perth by the way - if you have a car and get bored, head up the A9 to House of Bruar, it's like the Harrods of the North, or just along from me is Bankfoot Visitors Centre with the Scottish Liquier Centre, worth a run up for the 10 miles or so.
  • Thanks - know the House of Bruar well, as I'm used to the journey up and down the A9.

I know that there are a couple of Italians in Perth - what's the name of the one behind the Concert Hall, is it Ciao Roma?

Ciao Roma is by the City Hall, not the Concert Hall. I don't really think much of the Italians in Perth.

Manzil, more or less opposite the AK Bell library is a decent Indian.

No-one has mentioned 63 Tay Street, which is a brilliant restaurant for a special occasion. If you book via the 5pm website you can get a good price set meal, often including a glass of wine and/or coffee. There are good deals on that site for The Bothy too - which is nice.

The Darjeeling in Dunkeld is also really good if you have a car and are prepared to drive a bit north of Perth. The 3-course lunch for £5-95 is a bargain.
