Magazine offers - 3 for £1, free gifts etc V

Will not be taking out any more magazine offers via National Magazines. I am absolutely fuming! I had an offer for She Magazine for 12 issues for £12.60 last year in February. I duly cancelled the direct debit after it had been taken. I set up a new direct debit recently for Zest and today National Magazines took the £3 Zest sub and also a separate £17.40 as a continuance of my She sub under the same direct debit reference. I phoned them and they were not at all helpful. I have been onto the Bank and according to them this is not an unusual occurrence with National Magazines. The Bank is looking into it for me and I am hopeful of getting the money back but I just wondered if anyone else had had this problem.0

I haven't had that problem, but it's disgusting that they took the money out for a subscription that you had cancelled. The bank will definitely put the money back into your account - after all, you are covered by the Direct Debit Guarantee. When you set up the new DD, you only authorised National Magazines to take the £3 for the Zest subscription, and so they are in the wrong for taking more than they should have done.
Please keep us updated as to what happens, and get back to National Magazines and demand to speak to their Customer Services Manager - don't be waylaid by anyone else asking what it's about/can they help you. I personally would demand a full explanation as to why they have taken money from your bank account without your authorisation. Good luck!0 -
I subscribed to the MAXIM 3-for-£1 offer on Jan. 16th, but have not yet rec'd the promised "MEN-U SHAVE & FACIAL PACK" freebie - anyone else here have the same problem? Is it worth the effort to chase them up?
Cheers ... soulboy0 -

oh that wee card thing on the front, l thought the sample was attached to the front. Yeah then l got that, just been to lazy to take it to my local Boots store. Its a shame that l cant chose the colours for the free gifts from the mags , when u take out a subcription. Well at least i get my magazines at a reduced price. Silly me i dont buy Glamour for the freebies.A smile and manners doesnt cost any thing0 -

Always ring the bank (or go online) and cancel dds at the same time you inform the magazine, then they cant take the money even if they try. I got caught out the same way once and the bank told me to always ring them alsoThe curve that can set a lot of things straight is a smile0 -

The direct debit was cancelled. They took the money through a newly set up completely separate magazine subscription direct debit so there really wasn't any way I could have avoided it happening.0
