I suppose it was one of those dreadful listings that has a single line description of the item followed by many paragraphs of obscure disclaimers and terms and conditions? I find them so irritating, it's the Back button for me every time.

If the listing does not quote the exact postage I will have to pay, I wouldn't even give it a second look unless it was something I really wanted that I couldn't get elsewhere.

i would leave negative for over charging, if someone puts 7.50 i would expect it to be sent special delivery, also postage costs are meant to be clear and not profit making, these clearly are. give them negative teach them a lesson

If it said max £5 - why did you pay £7.50 ?

I would deffo give it 1 star on that rating line, but I asume that you were happy with the total cost (price + postage) or else why would you have purchased ?
  • a friend of mine purchased 15 of the same (small) item from a seller recently, and was charged £15 P&P when the postage was £2.66.

problem was he didn't request a saving in advance, but the seller still refused to do anything about it afterwards. as if the "issue refund" button wouldn't allow them to at least give back a tenner as a good will gesture.

leave negative im fed up with annoying sellers who try to make too much profit on postage. after all thats what the neg button is for to leave a seller neg if the service you receive isnt a good one, its not just about the item.

After a few people start leaving negs and low stars they will realise they cant get away with it and people will stop buying their goods.

Why should they get away with it! after all postage is not a profit making item on ebay and also they clearly state can only charge for actual postage and packaging not TIME and FULL as people on here seem to think!

I always over ask for postage, just to ensure I'm not going to loose out to much on sending the item. I always state a cost in my listings and abide by ebay rulings.

At the post office you can state its an ebay item and they leave the postage amount of the stamp for the item.

If the postage is too high just don't buy from them. I just dont get this why complain about the postage when its stated in the listing and you know before hand what it will cost.

By bidding you have agreed to there postage rates wether they be fair or unfair

    From eBay help pages:
sellers may charge reasonable postage & packaging charges to cover the costs of posting, packaging, and handling the items they are selling.
In such categories, while eBay will not prescribe exactly what a seller may or may not charge, eBay will consider member reports when determining whether or not a seller’s postage, handling, packaging, and/or insurance charges are excessive. Postage & packaging and handling charges may not be listed as a percentage of the final sale price.
In addition to the final listing price, sellers are permitted to charge:
Actual Postage cost: This is the actual cost of delivering the item.
Handling Fee: Actual packaging materials costs may be charged. A handling fee in addition to actual postage cost may be charged if it is not excessive. Sellers who want to be sure they are in compliance with this policy may charge actual postage costs plus actual packaging materials cost.

So it would seem clear that you can charge a "reasonable" amount for your time.

As always, what is reasonable is a subjective matter.

If sellers reduce their postage, buyers will bid up the price so the overall cost to the buyer isn't going to change much in most cases, only the seller would pay more fees so it's a way to avoid fees rather than profting from buyers. Against the rules mind...
