Bank has stamped counterfoil with one amount, and credited a lower amount to account

The person paying in the cash one week ago seems to have initialled the pay-in slip for changes amounting to £20 less than they were given to pay in. No amendment has been made to the counterfoil, which has been stamped and initialled by the teller for the original amount.
The person who paid the money in is now living abroad, and the Bank do not seem to accept responsibility.
Do I have any redress against the bank? Small amount, but it is the principal of the matter!

Well from what you've said, the guy you sent to pay the money in paid in £20 too little - it's not really the bank's fault that your mate was on the take!0

No. In short, that's your record of the deposit, and the bank are just acknowledging receipt of the deposit, not necessarily that it's correct - think, for example, about depositing cheques that weren't added up correctly. What would William Shatner do?0

If it was the person who was paying it in who has initialed then I wouldn't hope for anything back, might be worth calling bank to check if any till differences that day but wouldn't hold my breath. sorry0

At the very least they could provide you with a copy of the credit.
Mistakes do happen and it could be a cashier error or indeed your friend either made a mistake or kept £20 for himself.
Worth asking if the tills did balance.0
